To find a PayPal receipt, sign in and open Activity. Select the payment that matches the date, name, and amount. On a computer, you can print the transaction details or save the page as a PDF.
In the PayPal app, tap Activity, search for the payment, and open it. If you need many records, use PayPal's report download instead of saving each payment one at a time.
A PayPal transaction record shows that a payment moved through PayPal. It may not list every item you bought. For an itemized receipt, ask the seller or store that filled the order.
Where can you find a PayPal receipt?

Start with the account and device used for the payment. The right path depends on whether you paid, sold an item, or need a full report.
| What you need | Best place to look | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| One payment on a computer | PayPal Activity | You must use the right account |
| One payment in the app | App Activity | Printing is easier on the website |
| A Virtual Terminal sale | Transaction Confirmation page | This is for eligible business accounts |
| A Point of Sale receipt | Point of Sale app | Email, text, or printer options can vary |
| Many past payments | Statements and reports | Large reports may take time |
| Items bought from a store | The seller or store | PayPal may not hold an itemized list |
Once the real payment facts are in hand, the online receipt tools can help you format a clear personal record. They cannot enter PayPal, find a payment, issue a duplicate, or prove that a sale took place. A custom file is not an official PayPal or merchant receipt.
What should you gather before you search?
Write down the payment date, amount, currency, and seller name. Keep the email address used for PayPal nearby. A transaction ID is also helpful.
Do not share your password, PIN, security code, or full card number. A real support agent does not need those details to help you find a payment.
How to find a PayPal receipt on the website
Use PayPal's official website. Check the address bar before you sign in, especially if you opened a link from an email.
Step 1: Sign in to the right PayPal account
Use the email linked to the payment. If you have personal and business accounts, check both before you decide the record is gone.
Step 2: Open Activity
Choose Activity from your account. This page holds sent payments, received payments, refunds, and other account moves.
Step 3: Search and select the payment
Search by name or use the date and status filters. Open the result and match the amount, currency, recipient, date, and status.
Step 4: Print or save the details
Use your browser's Print command. Choose Save as PDF if you want a digital copy. Check the preview before you save it.
How to find a PayPal receipt in the app
The app is useful when you need to check a payment fast. Button names may move after an app update, but Activity remains the main starting point.
Step 1: Open the official PayPal app
Sign in with the same account used for the payment. Do not use a receipt lookup app that asks for your PayPal password.
Step 2: Tap Activity
Open Activity to see recent account moves. If the payment is old, use search or the filter icon.
Step 3: Open the matching payment
Check the name, date, amount, currency, and status. A similar amount is not enough. Make sure all key details match.
Step 4: Keep the real payment record
Save the details using an option offered by your phone. If you need a clean PDF, open the same payment on PayPal's website and use the browser print menu.
How to download PayPal statements and reports
A report is better when you need a month, a year, or many payments. PayPal says transaction activity reports can cover up to seven past years.
Step 1: Open History or Activity
Sign in on the web and open the history area. The exact label can differ by account view.
Step 2: Choose Download
Select the download icon. If your account shows an All Reports area, open the report that fits your need.
Step 3: Set the report details
Choose Custom, pick the date range, and select a file type. PayPal lists PDF, CSV, TAB, Quicken, and QuickBooks options for transaction activity reports.
Step 4: Generate and download the file
Follow the prompts, then download the report when it is ready. PayPal says one request can include up to 12 months. A large history log may take up to five business days.
If these files are for bookkeeping, keep the original download with your other records. This guide on how to organize receipts for taxes gives a simple folder plan. It is not tax advice.
How can a seller send a PayPal transaction receipt?
PayPal Virtual Terminal lets an eligible seller view, print, or email a receipt from the Transaction Confirmation page. The seller can choose Print or Email Receipt, open the receipt page, and send a copy to the customer's email.
PayPal Point of Sale can send a receipt by email or text. It can also print through a compatible printer. The seller should check the address or phone number before sending it.
Point of Sale receipt settings can include a business name, contact details, address, website, logo, and extra business notes. Those settings do not change the saved business account details.
PayPal receipt vs merchant receipt vs invoice

These records answer different questions. Choose the one that fits the job.
| Record | What it usually shows | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal transaction details | Payment name, date, amount, status, and transaction ID | Confirming the PayPal payment |
| PayPal activity report | Many account moves in one file | Bookkeeping and account review |
| Merchant receipt | Items, quantity, tax, discounts, and total | Returns and item proof |
| Invoice | What the seller asked the buyer to pay | Billing before or after payment |
An invoice is not always proof that money was paid. The difference between an invoice and a receipt matters when a return desk, client, or bookkeeper asks for one exact record.
Why is the PayPal payment missing?
The payment may be under another email or account. It may also sit outside the date filter, show under a different status, or appear under the seller's legal name instead of the store name you know.
PayPal gives the buyer and seller different transaction IDs for the same payment. That is normal. Search your own Activity with the ID shown in your account.
If you paid without signing in, search the checkout email. The merchant may have the itemized receipt. For more backup ideas, follow these honest lost-receipt recovery steps.
What do pending, completed, and refunded mean?
Read the status before you save the record. Pending means the payment is not final yet. The amount or result may still change.
Completed means PayPal shows the payment as done. It does not prove that the buyer got the item. Refunded means some or all of the funds were sent back.
Wait for the last status when the file is for your books. Keep the first record too if it helps show what took place. Do not edit a status to make it look final.
What should a real PayPal payment record show?
A payment record may show the recipient or sender, date, amount, currency, status, and transaction ID. It may also show contact details, fees, the funding source, or a note.
Not every payment has an item list. PayPal moved the money, but another seller may have filled the order. Ask that seller when you need product names, tax lines, or return proof.
How should you save and share the record?
Use a clear file name, such as 2026-09-03-seller-25-usd.pdf. Put it in a folder for the right month or job. Keep the email with it when that email explains the sale.
Keep the first file as it came from PayPal. If you must hide a home address or phone number, make a second copy to share. Do not change the date, amount, name, ID, or status.
Send only what the other person needs. A buyer, client, or bookkeeper should not get your password, full card number, or one-time sign-in code.
Common PayPal receipt problems
| Problem | Best next move |
|---|---|
| Payment is not in Activity | Check every PayPal email and widen the date filter |
| Seller name looks unfamiliar | Open the details and compare the date and amount |
| Payment is still pending | Wait for the final status before saving the record |
| App has no print button | Open PayPal on the web and use browser Print |
| Report is not ready | Check again later; large logs can take several days |
| Receipt has no item list | Ask the merchant for an itemized receipt |
| Buyer and seller IDs differ | Use the ID shown in your own account |
| Only a custom record exists | Label it custom and do not use it as proof of payment |
Final answer
Open PayPal Activity and select the payment. Match the name, date, amount, currency, and status. Use your browser to print the details or save them as a PDF.
Use reports when you need many payments. Ask the merchant for an itemized receipt. A custom record can keep known facts neat, but it cannot replace a real PayPal or seller record.
